What is it?
When I set-up Girls Rising, I wanted to create a day that help girls understand and trust their bodies more than their mothers and elder females had been educated to when we/they were young.
As a Mum to a teenager myself, I have seen that there are lots of things that consume our young girls than we had to deal with when young. We thought magazines of the 90s were bad, now our daughters have to contend with the rapid growth in social media and technology along with the normal challenges of hormonal changes, growing independence and desires to do what their peers are doing. It can mean the shared understanding between parent and child quickly deteriorates:
